I’ve been feeling a bit discouraged lately. I’ve gotten a little off track with writing these past few weeks, and I have a lot of catching up to do. But I recently saw this short film, and it inspires me to keep going.
There are those who would say that science has taken all the magic out of life and all the magic out of the world. I don’t see things that way, and clearly these intrepid young space adventurers don’t see things that way either.

My writing has been disrupted too – for the last 6 months or so I keep hitting 1-2-3 days in a row where I don’t write at all. You’ve heard of sleep-deprivation? Well, writing-deprivation feels similar. I’m getting near the end of the first draft of my WIP and it’s becoming clear how I need to change the beginning to make it all work.

I know what you mean, that writing deprivation is like sleep deprivation. If I go too long without writing, I become very irritable and cranky.
I like to think Feynman (and many other well known scientists) was a bit of a poet himself. He certainly knew how to express the beauty of science in poetic ways.

I’ve never understood the view that science removes the magic out of life. If anything, it can be seen as magic that works. Yes, it does sometimes obviate cherished notions, but it also conquers fearful and painful ones.
